Pulling a book out of a bookshelf

At SH Family Law Ltd. we recognise that it is feasible for some people to conduct their own divorce and particularly in the current economic climate we respect their right to do so.  However, it is important to understand that the law is a technical area of expertise and there are common pitfalls which can have the consequence of turning a potential straight forward and quick divorce into a costly, time consuming and stressful process for the lay person.

This is why, in addition to our mainstream services, we offer those clients embarking on a DIY service as much or as little assistance as they require throughout the process.

Unlike online divorces, all our DIY clients have access to experienced divorce and family Solicitors.  We can offer face to face appointments as and when required, in addition to telephone advices.  We can also communicate with other Solicitors and/or other professionals on their behalf if so required.

Our clients are only charged for that part of the work which we carry out for them.  For example, if they require assistance in drafting the divorce petition or advice as to what constitutes unreasonable behaviour if that is the basis upon which the Petitioner is to rely, we can give those particular advices.  If there are children, we can give assistance in the completion of the Statement of Arrangements for them which must be sent to the court with the Petition.

In terms of finances, online divorces will only deal with clean break orders by consent.  They do not offer advice in terms of settlement and again, the client does not have direct access to a Solicitor.  Whatever agreement is reached, we can incorporate it into a Consent Order which can then be sent to the Court for approval by a District Judge.

What we offer is different.  We can help you every step of the way and we speak your language. All our clients benefit from the fact that they always have direct access to a Solicitor.  There are no secretaries or receptionists to go through.   We offer a personalised DIY divorce which is tailored to meet our client’s needs.

Our clients can choose how much or how little work they want us to partake on their behalf and are therefore in control of the costs they incur.  Our job is to provide them with the peace of mind of knowing  that whenever they are stuck  they can rely on our experience and expertise to support them through the DIY process.

"Thank you for all the help you have given me over the past 18 months also your support over the court case.  You made the difficult and scary bits regarding the divorce a lot easier".
